Japan Code Name: Operation "Jolly Elf" Mission: Rescue Santa - Save Christmas Reported by: Team Leader Rudolph It was 06:37 Hours. Teams two and three had secured the primary and secondary targets and had them secured in the sleigh workshop. Damage incurred during the rescue efforts had rendered the sleigh that we planned to used for the extraction unusable. Approximately 06:40 hours Team 2, in transit to rendezvous with teams 3 & 4 came across unfriendlies thought to be rendered incapacitated. It was Lt. Vixen that first noticed the problem with the unfriendlies - they didn't blink. Careful examination revealed also that they did not exhibit the normal "frosty breath steam" that you see when you exhale in this cold an environment. At 06:41 we alerted teams 2 and 3 to our finding and assumptions: Rudolph: Team leader to Teams 2 and 3 Dasher: Team leader - we copy. Rudolph: Be advised that you have 7, I repeat 7, unfriendlies coming at you and we assume that they are robots. Over Dasher: Team Leader, did you say "robots." Rudolph: That's a roger. They don't blink. They don't breathe and when you shoot them, they get up again. Santa: Rudy, this is Santa. I don't know what all this "roger" and "over" stuff is all about, but the guys that I was meeting at Nintega were all up about their robotics and artificial intelligence programs. Rudolph: Roger that, Jolly elf. Santa (to Dasher): What's he talking about. Dasher: (to Santa): Don't worry about it. He's on the Jazz... Rudolph: All Teams - if you see a hostile and they aren't blinking and there is no breath steaming in the cold air, assume they aren't alive and shoot to destroy - they can't be stunned!!!! At this point (06:42) Team 2 took a defensive position about "Jolly Elf" and "Sugar Cookie". Team 3 took covering position with fire lines into the corridor. All parties were armed with Q-Pids Ping-Pong ball guns. I gave the instruction to use RDP methane grenades. Team 4 occupied a position on the roof with fire-lines to the back of the unfriendlies. On my signal, Team 3 commenced with a volley of RDP grenades to illicit damage to the robot squad. The first volley was a direct hit but inflicted little damage to all but one of the robots. Six assumed more defendable positions versus team 3 and began to commence firing with shotguns, machine guns and PRG launchers. For some reason, each robot would shoot for a few rounds and then switch guns. At this point, after several minute of fire fighting, Lt. Vixed apparently noticed something from his position with team 4 up on the roof. At this time, he flew down to the corridor, attracting attention of the hostiles. Lt. Vixen gabbed the downed robot (rendered inactive in the first RDP volley) and dragged him to a secure position. Lt. Vixen at this time was out of our line of site, but his actions had given away our position and the hostiles took up a line of fire that prevented us from securing a firing attitude. Approximately 06:47, fire from the hostiles aimed at our position collapsed a portion of the ceiling. All of us remaining on the roof, took to the sky in an effort to not be caught in the falling debris. Lt. Vixen, as I stated earlier was now in the hallway and out of sight. I got to the air, but team 4 had been a 3-deer team. Lt. Prancer was lost.I saw him go down with the rubble and could not do anything to prevent it. |
